Cranford Walking Tour Inaugurates Historic QR Code Signs p>\n
On Sunday\, May 22 at 2 p.m.\, the Cranford Historic Preservation A dvisory Board (HPAB) will conduct a walking tour of historic sites with ne w QR (quick response) codes. The tour will also feature additional facts a bout the downtown and surrounding areas.
\nParticipants will meet in front of the First Baptist Church of Cranford at 100 High Street\, which is the first site on the tour. There is a suggested fee of $5\, payable in cash or check (made payable to Cranford Historic Preservation Advisory Bo ard or Cranford HPAB) to help fund its work.
\nHPAB is a volunteer a dvisory board appointed by the Cranford Township Committee. Its primary pu rpose is to help residents recognize the significance of noteworthy histor ic buildings\, steetscapes\, and districts to emphasize the importance of preserving these resources so they can be enjoyed by current and future ge nerations. Preserving historic buildings\, streetscapes\, and districts he lps the architectural and aesthetic character of Cranford and its neighbor hoods remain intact.
\nSome of the things that HPAB does to accompli sh its goals includes researching properties and districts and applying fo r Certificates of Eligibility for inclusion on the State and National Hist oric Registers as well as seeking to have properties and districts designa ted as historic by the Township.

\n\nThe First Presbyterian Church will be accepting dropped-off donations between 3 and 5 pm outsi de Bates Hall on Springfield Avenue. Donations being sought include wrappe d/bagged sandwiches\, diapers and wipes\, new socks\, gloves and hats\, pa ntry items\, and women’s sanitary items.

You will learn how to defend y ourself! This is hands-on seminar designed to provide women in the communi ty with the skills and mindset needed to defend themselves through a combi nation of preventative measures\, heightened awareness\, and practical han ds-on training in self-defense techniques. Among the topics to be taught: escapes from stranger and non-stranger attacks\, wrist release\, choke def ense\, strikes\, hair grabs and ground drags and how to get out from under an attacker. Participants will also practice yelling and learn how to set boundaries and assert themselves.
\nThe seminar will be led by Jen Pittman\, currently a Supervisory United States Probation Officer. She has received specialized training from the Federal Law Enforcement Training C enter in Charleston\, South Carolina\, and has instructed her fellow offic ers in defensive tactics and use of force since 2011. She is also a gradua te of the Gracie University Survival Tactics program and has been a Gracie certified instructor since 2019. Jen has previous training in various for ms of martial arts\, including Taekwondo\, Muay Thai Kickboxing\, Brazilia n Jiu-Jitsu\, Judo\, and Krav Maga. She is also a Black Belt.
\nThe seminar is hands-on and participants are must wear comfortable clothing. p>\n
The seminar will be held at THE MAX Challenge of Cranford\, 777 Wal nut Avenue\, Cranford\, New Jersey. Cost is $30 per person\; women ages 16 & up are welcome (under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult). Particip ants must register in advance.
