Regi stration for Union County Rugby’s 2nd Annual Virtual Race is live on Wedne sday June 1! We offer four levels of participation and participants can ea rn mileage in any way that works for them – running\, biking\, walking\, h iking\, cycling\, elliptical\, rower\, swimming\, etc. This is a rolling s tart virtual event that can be completed anywhere in the world. The final day to input activity is August 31. After this period\, all of the partici pation materials will be sent out to the racers in the form of medals\, t- shirts\, and race bibs. Participation is open to anyone – club members\, f amily\, friends\, etc.

\nThe f irst 150 participants will receive a free food voucher for use at the conc ert.
\nThe free concert caps a month of Hispanic Heritage Month acti vities sponsored by the Commissioner Board\, including the raising of the County’s first-ever Hispanic Heritage flag at the County Courthouse in Eli zabeth\, a family movie night double feature at Plainfield High School in Plainfield\, a family fun day at Rahway River Park in Rahway\, and a count ywide virtual art exhibit.
\n“The Commissioner Board is proud to sup port Hispanic Heritage Month and encourage people from all walks of life t o unite in the enjoyment of cultural events\, in recognition of the leadin g role of the Hispanic community throughout Union County\,” said Commissio ner Board Chairman Alexander Mirabella.
\n“It is fitting to conclude our series of Hispanic Heritage Month in Union County with music\, the gr eat uniter of people all over the world\,” said Commissioner Sergio Granad os. “I am proud to be one of almost 200\,000 Hispanic residents that make Union County a wonderful place to live\, and I welcome this opportunity to share Hispanic culture throughout the community.”

\nIn addition to sh owcasing the Hector Morales Salsa Band\, Concert in the Park will feature an awards ceremony recognizing the contributions of three outstanding memb ers of the Hispanic community in Union County: George A. Castro II\, owner of the Premier Homes real estate firm in Roselle Park\; Juanita Vargas\, Vice President of Programs and Operations at United Way of Greater Union C ounty\; and Union County Undersheriff Amilcar “Mickey” Colon.
\nFood trucks will be on-site and residents are welcome to bring their own picni c.
\nUnion County residents seeking to be vaccinated against the COV ID-19 virus can use Union County’s free vaccination service\, available at the site from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. COVID-19 tests will also be available fre e of charge to Union County residents.
\nTrack Friday is a day of givin g back by supporting local charities while burning off some Thanksgiving c alories. On Friday\, November 26th\, Cranford residents are invited to run or walk at the Memorial Field Track and participate in trackside workout sessions from Garden State Athletics and Alluem Yoga.
\nThis year we ’ve added the inaugural Will DeGregorio Memorial Extra Mile\, a casual one mile run/walk honoring Will. A portion of this year’s proceeds will fund scholarships in Will’s name via the Cranford Police Athletic League.

Presented by Cesar-Kai Karate Academy in partnership with the YWCA Union County\, the seminar will provide women in Union County with the skills and mindset nee ded to defend themselves through a combination of preventative measures\, heightened awareness\, and practical hands-on training in self-defense tec hniques. Among the topics to be covered: escapes from stranger and non-str anger attacks\, wrist release\, choke defense\, strikes\, hair grabs and g round drags\, and how to get out from under an attacker. Participants will also practice yelling and learn how to set boundaries and assert themselv es.
\nThe seminar is hands-on\, and participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing that allows ease of movement.
\nAlthough the s eminar is free\, a $25 donation is requested\, and participants must regis ter in advance. All proceeds will go to the YWCA Union County. To register \, call Cesar-Kai at 908-967-6571.
\nThe seminar will be led by Jen Pittman\, a Supervisory United States Probation Officer. She has received specialized training from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in C harleston\, South Carolina\, and has instructed her officers in defensive tactics and use of force since 2011. She is also a graduate of the Gracie University Survival Tactics program and has been a Gracie certified instru ctor since 2019.
