\nSurvivors and Caregivers are the heart and soul of Relay For Life events. We honor their strength and courage with every s tep they take. It doesn’t matter if you were diagnosed 10 days ago or 10 y ears ago\, you can walk while everyone gathers together to cheer you on. p>\n
During this ceremony\ , we represent everyone touched by cancer with a Luminaria. Each light rep resents a life—a life taken by cancer\, a survivor of cancer\, or support for a person still fighting the disease. It’s a powerful demonstration tha t gives people the opportunity to grieve but also offers comfort and hope.

Our closing ceremony is the time to commit to take action and help lead the fight for a world free from cancer. It’s a time to celebrate what we’ve accomplishe d together and a time to unify for the work that needs to be done moving f orward.

The musical intertwine s the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales\, exploring the conseque nces of the characters’ wishes and quests.This 1987 musical has music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine\, and won three of the ten Tony Awards it was nominated for in that first year including Best Or iginal Score and Best Book of a Musical. \nPlace your bags of non-perishable food in your trunk\, drive up\, pop your trunk and volunteers will remove them\, no contact needed! Your food dona tions will be delivered to Cranford Family Care\, St. Joseph’s Social Serv ices\, and other local organizations serving families in need.
\nThe church’s parking lot is next to the Cranford Library\, 201 Lincoln Ave Ea st.
\nHere are examples of especially needed items: Cooking oil\, tu na\, boxed milk\, spices\, salt\, pepper\, tea and coffee\, sugar\, flour\ , crackers\, soup\, cereal\, canned vegetables\, rice (one or two pounds)\ , cake mix\, and frosting\, dish detergent\, soap and paper goods.
\nAlso needed: fresh produce\, for example\, apples\, onions\, potatoes\, a nd other hardy fresh produce.
\nCan’t make that date? There are bins placed outside the entrance to the church off of the parking lot where do nations can be dropped any time\, 24/7.
\nLast month\, several vans full to the brim with food were delivered to Cranford Family Care and St. Joseph’s and we thank you for helping make it happen!

Among the topics t o be covered: escapes from stranger and non-stranger attacks\, wrist relea se\, choke defense\, strikes\, hair grabs and ground drags\, and how to ge t out from under an attacker. Participants will also practice yelling and learn how to set boundaries and assert themselves.
\nThe seminar is hands-on\, and participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing that allows ease of movement.
\nAlthough the seminar is free\, a $25 dona tion is requested\, and participants must register in advance. All proceed s will go to the YWCA Union County. To register\, call Cesar-Kai at 908-96 7-6571.
\nThe seminar will be led by Jen Pittman\, a Supervisory Uni ted States Probation Officer. She is also a graduate of the Gracie University Survival Tactics program and has been a Gracie certified instructor since 2019.

Join us at the nex t Drive-Thru Food Collection Saturday\, March 11\, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in t he parking lot of Cranford United Methodist Church. Did you know that as o f March 1st\, NJ families who receive government funds for food (aka food stamps/SNAP) are receiving less money because pandemic funds ha ve expired? With the high cost of food biting into all our household budge ts\, let’s keep up our efforts to help our neighbors. Fresh produce and no n-perishables are requested. Hope to see you on Saturday!

\n\nUnion County’s 2023 Paper Shredding Events will continue in June. There are tw o shredding events that will be held during the month. The first event wi ll take place on Wednesday\, June 7th at the Clark Public Works Yard\, whi ch is located behind the police station at 315 Westfield Avenue in Clark ( please use Wilson Road for access to the event). The second event will ta ke place on Saturday\, June 10th. This event will take place at Union College\, which is located at 1033 Springfield Avenue in Cr anford. The event will be held in parking lots 5A and 5B. Both events wi ll run from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm\, unless the shredding trucks fill to capac ity first. These events are drive-up only.
