In the spirit of Ken Burns’ breakout PBS documentary seri es on American country music\, acclaimed guitarist and music historian Joe y Leone presents “The History of Blues in America” a one hour program cove ring the history\, influence and social impact of American blues music thr ough songs\, stories and historical facts. Joey highlights the influence o f blues on virtually all styles of contemporary music over the past 7 deca des playing a variety of songs on multiple guitars from his personal colle ction.
\nIn addition to the live music segments\, he touches on recu rring themes of how the blues transcended racial boundaries\, brought peop le together in times of celebration and times of healing\, and show the bl ues followed the migration from the rural south to the urban north. \nJoin OMNY Taiko for an interactive Taiko performance! Taiko (太鼓\, literally “big dru m”) is a type of Japanese percussion that has been played for well over 1\ ,000 years. Traditionally\, taiko were used in religious ceremonies\, fest ivals\, and as theatrical accompaniment. Kumi-daiko\, or ensemble drumming \, was created in the 1950s. In kumi-daiko\, many drummers play different- sized drums to create complex rhythms and stylized performances. This styl e of taiko drumming has become extremely popular and taiko groups have for med all across the world.
