HOW IT WORKS:
\nFriends of the P erforming Arts is thrilled to be sponsoring the first-ever Cranford Film F estival. The festival\, which will run from Sat\, April 17th – Sun\, April 25th\, features a collection of 50 short films from around the world in the categories of fiction\, documentary\, animation\, music videos\, and student films. Two nights will be dedicated to NJ-base d selections\, among them 7 Cranford-based filmmakers’ works!
\nDue to COVID\, the festival will take place virtual ly so you can watch all the films from the comfort of your own home! A ful l schedule of the films and festival passes ($25 – which allows viewing of all the festival films throughout the week) can be found on the festival website www.c ranfordfilmfestival.org.

Along with the in-theater screening on April 30th\, we’ll also be hosting a pre-party at Ciao Amici from 4 – 6 with filmmakers in attendance . Wednesday at Orange Avenue School at 7:00 PM.
\nThis annual event ai
ms to honor the memory of the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust
while educating about the horrors of genocide.
The featured speake r this year will be Maud Dahme\, a passionate advocate for Holocaust educa tion who is herself a survivor. Born in the Netherlands\, she spent the en tire German occupation in hiding with her sister and was saved from the Na zi death camps by a courageous Christian family who looked after the two o f them.
\nRabbi Paul Kerbel of Cranford’s Temple Beth-El Mekor Chayi m (TBEMC) synagogue and president of the Cranford Clergy Council will intr oduce the speakers and performances\, which include Cranford Township Mayo r Brian Andrews and Cranford Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Scott Rubin . Performers include the Orange Avenue School orchestra\, the Hillside Ave nue School chorus\, an original dance by the Cranford High School Performi ng Arts Dance Academy and original poetry written by Saint Michael School’ s students.
\nThis event is free and open to the public. It will als o be recorded and aired on TV35.
\n\nUnion County’s 2023 Paper Shredding Events will continue in June. There are tw o shredding events that will be held during the month. The first event wi ll take place on Wednesday\, June 7th at the Clark Public Works Yard\, whi ch is located behind the police station at 315 Westfield Avenue in Clark ( please use Wilson Road for access to the event). The second event will ta ke place on Saturday\, June 10th. This event will take place at Union College\, which is located at 1033 Springfield Avenue in Cr anford. The event will be held in parking lots 5A and 5B. Both events wi ll run from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm\, unless the shredding trucks fill to capac ity first. These events are drive-up only.
