The Club will be celebrating its 50th An niversary in three short years\, and we are beginning to fundraise and dra w awareness to this monumental event. In addition to the 50th\, we are als o preparing to start a modified season\, our first since we lost 2 full se asons to the Coronavirus Pandemic. Since we were not able to gather on the field last year\, we have decided to host a virtual race encompassing all of the rugby clubs in NJ to foster some friendly competition and to get p eople excited for the possible restart of competitive play this Spring.\nC hallenge yourself to one (or multiple) of the virtual race options by logg ing your total accumulated mileage over a time frame of your choosing. This would take you from Rahway R iver Park in Rahway to Madison Avenue Park also in Rahway\, to Unami Park in Cranford\, to Warinaco Park in Roselle\, and back to the start at Rahwa y River Park.\nThe River Run: 42 miles is the combined distance of the two mightiest waterways running through Union County\, the Rahway River\, and the Elizabeth River.\nThe Jersey Cup: 257 Miles is a daunting task\, but covers the same distance you would if you hopped in your car to tour all o f the home pitches of New Jersey’s NINE rugby clubs. This route goes south to north and would take you from Jersey Shore to South Jersey to Monmouth to Princeton to Union to Bayonne to Morris to Montclair to North Jersey. \nCranford Tuff Paddle is not your typical team obstacle course fun run. Heck\, there’s o nly one obstacle you’ll need to literally navigate: The Rahway River!
\n\nThe Union County Board of Co unty Commissioners is proud to present “Concert in the Park\,” a free musi cal celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month featuring the Hector Morales Sa lsa Band on Saturday\, October 16\, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. outdoors a t Union County’s Warinanco Sports Center\, located at 1 Park Drive in Wari nanco Park\, in Roselle.
\nThe first 150 participants will receive a free food voucher for use at the concert.
\nThe free conce rt caps a month of Hispanic Heritage Month activities sponsored by the Com missioner Board\, including the raising of the County’s first-ever Hispani c Heritage flag at the County Courthouse in Elizabeth\, a family movie nig ht double feature at Plainfield High School in Plainfield\, a family fun d ay at Rahway River Park in Rahway\, and a countywide virtual art exhibit.< /p>\n
“The Commissioner Board is proud to support Hispanic Heritage Mont h and encourage people from all walks of life to unite in the enjoyment of cultural events\, in recognition of the leading role of the Hispanic comm unity throughout Union County\,” said Commissioner Board Chairman Alexande r Mirabella.

\nIn addition to showcasing the Hector Morales Salsa Band\, Concert in the Park will feature an awards ceremony recogniz ing the contributions of three outstanding members of the Hispanic communi ty in Union County: George A. Castro II\, owner of the Premier Homes real estate firm in Roselle Park\; Juanita Vargas\, Vice President of Programs and Operations at United Way of Greater Union County\; and Union County Un dersheriff Amilcar “Mickey” Colon.
\nFood trucks will be on-site and residents are welcome to bring their own picnic.
\nUnion County res idents seeking to be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus can use Union C ounty’s free vaccination service\, available at the site from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. COVID-19 tests will also be available free of charge to Union County residents.
