We will still be holding our 10th annual Rubber Ducky Race on October 10th\, but this year\, the Ducks are on u s!
\nWith the recent flooding e vent that impacted our community\, our famous rubber ducks will NO T be for sale. Instead\, they will be available for adoption\, fr ee of charge. We hope that our Rubber Ducky Race will provide some much-ne eded and well-deserved reprieve from the hardships that our town has suffe red.
\nDucks can be adopted and picked up from Periwinkles Fine Gifts (19 N. Union Ave\, Cranford). In dividuals can adopt a single duck\, and families can adopt a Family Flock of Five.
\nUnfortunately\, Ha nson Park itself was hit hard by Hurricane Ida. If you’d like to help\, pl ease consider ordering a Rubber Ducky Race T-Shirt or providing a donation to HPC for the replacement of bushes\, ongoing maintenance\, and continue d beautification of the park. \n\nThe Union County Board of Co unty Commissioners is proud to present “Concert in the Park\,” a free musi cal celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month featuring the Hector Morales Sa lsa Band on Saturday\, October 16\, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. outdoors a t Union County’s Warinanco Sports Center\, located at 1 Park Drive in Wari nanco Park\, in Roselle.
\nThe first 150 participants will receive a free food voucher for use at the concert.
\nThe free conce rt caps a month of Hispanic Heritage Month activities sponsored by the Com missioner Board\, including the raising of the County’s first-ever Hispani c Heritage flag at the County Courthouse in Elizabeth\, a family movie nig ht double feature at Plainfield High School in Plainfield\, a family fun d ay at Rahway River Park in Rahway\, and a countywide virtual art exhibit.< /p>\n

\nJoin OMNY Taiko for an interactive Taiko performance! Taiko (太鼓\, literally “big dru m”) is a type of Japanese percussion that has been played for well over 1\ ,000 years. Traditionally\, taiko were used in religious ceremonies\, fest ivals\, and as theatrical accompaniment. Kumi-daiko\, or ensemble drumming \, was created in the 1950s. In kumi-daiko\, many drummers play different- sized drums to create complex rhythms and stylized performances. This styl e of taiko drumming has become extremely popular and taiko groups have for med all across the world.
