The Friends of the Cranford Public Library are pleased to host a script-in-hand, staged reading of "Dragons in the Crease," a new play by Joseph Vitale. The play will be read by members of The Theater Project, an acclaimed, New Jersey-based professional theater group, and the winner of two New Jersey Tony Awards. The play is set at a small junior college in Putnam County, New York. A poetry professor asks a student with a severe stutter not to speak in class but, instead, to write his questions down. Although seen by the professor as a way to conduct her class more smoothly, the request is viewed by the student and his father as an infringement of his rights. Thanks to the fatherís media connections, the incident becomes a front-page story in the New York Times, thrusting the participants into the national spotlight and changing their lives forever. The play reading will be followed by a discussion among Mr. Vitale, the director, the actors, and members of the audience. Admission is free and all are welcome.
