    You are invited to Books & Bagels. The format is simple. Just bring a few of your more recent favorite reads and tell the other members of the group what you like about them. The books can be new or old, fiction or non-fiction, classic or contemporary. There is no required reading, and you will have the opportunity to learn about books recommended by other group members. Plus, refreshments will be served, courtesy of the Friends of the Cranford Public Library! Registration is NOT required. Attend as many or as few sessions as you like. The next session following the February 1 session will be held on March 7.

    In this drama set in 1960s Poland, an orphaned teenager planning to become a nun visits her aunt.     The Asphalt Jungle is a brilliantly conceived and executed anatomy of a crime -- or, as director John Huston and scripter Ben Maddow put it, "a left-handed form of human endeavor." Recently paroled master criminal Erwin "Doc" Riedenschneider, with funding from a crooked attorney, gathers several crooks together in Cincinnati for a Big Caper. After a while, the meticulously planned crime falls apart with the inevitability of a Greek tragedy. The Asphalt Jungle was one of the first caper films to show a crime and its consequences from the criminals' point of view. The Asphalt Jungle was based on a novel by the prolific W.R.     The Westfield Area Y will host a free lecture on Wednesday, February 11th from 12:30 pm-1:30 pm at the Main Y Facility, 220 Clark Street. The topic “Healthy Eating/Healthy Aging,” will be led by Registered Dietitian Lindsey Roth of ShopRite of Garwood, who will discuss special nutrient needs for older adults and how to adapt nutritional goals to support physical and mental health as we age.
