Questions and Answers:
The following questions have been asked via this website:

Q: Just a quick question...I viewed a picture of the flagpole that is to be erected in front of the post office. It's very interesting looking. How many feet is it? I work here in Cranford and have been trying to follow the progress.

A: Thank you for your question! I’m so pleased to see that our website is helping to inform the residents of our efforts. The flagpole, once installed is estimated to stand between 70 and 75 feet tall.

Q: I think a better location would be placing the flag at Memorial H.S. Field where there is ample space. In front of the post office is too limited with space for a fountain and a flag. .Wouldn't a steel flag pole that tall and heavy require a large cement footing taking up alot of space ? Hope you reconsider other locations.

A: Thank you for your comment about the location for the Town Flagpole. In 2003 when the Flagpole was unceremoniously taken down, it was supposed to be placed someplace else in town. Five years later the Flagpole was still laying on its side at the town conservation center. No other spot in town was identified for this monument to be placed. This year when the Town Flagpole Fundraising Committee was formed, we did discuss all options as to where the Flagpole should be placed. We also researched the history of the Town Flagpole. Money was raised for this Flagpole by the Cranford community in the early 1900's because at the time Cranford did not have a Town Flagpole. The pole was erected on the small park at Eastman and Miln, then known as the MacConnell triangle. The local newspaper of the time,Cranford Citizen, thought "The location is undoubtedly the best in town." The Town Flagpole Fundraising Committee wanted to stay true to the history of our town and decided that the only place for the Town Flagpole was in the center of our town at Post Office Plaza.

This Flagpole represents a piece of Cranford History. Originally, three towns commissioned this type of Flagpole to be made, Roselle, Scotch Plains and Cranford. Roselle removed their Flagpole years ago. Scotch Plains restored their Flagpole ten years ago with private donations and it is located in the middle of downtown Scotch Plains. Cranford is now restoring a piece of its history for future generations to enjoy.

When this project is complete, I hope that you will enjoy looking at Post Office Plaza. It will be beautiful with the new Victorian Fountain and restored Town Flagpole.
