  • Book News - subscribe to an email newsletter about the latest in fiction and non-fiction books.  Choose from among more than 20 different categories by genre and area of interest.
  • Contemporary Authors / Gale Virtual Reference Library - Contemporary Authors contains biographical and bibliographical information about 120,000+ American and international authors. The Virtual Reference Library contains multivolume literary reference sets, including Drama for Students, Literary Themes for Students, Novels for Students, Poetry for Students, Shakespeare for Students and Short Stories for Students.
  • CountryWatch - A comprehensive source for socio-demographic, cultural, historical, economic, political, environmental and corporate information on 192 countries in the world (your password is your library card number).
  • Cranford Archive - Full-text, keyword searchable files in PDF format, including Cranford newspapers (1894-2005), Cranford High School yearbooks (1922-2008) and Cranford city directories (1901-1982).
  • Cranford Public Library Online Catalog - Search the catalog for thousands of books, recorded books, and audio-visual items.  Set up your own account and see what items you have out and when they are due.  With a personal account, you can also renew and reserve items online.  To access your account, you will need your library card number, plus a password.  If you need a password, please ask at the library's main desk.   • Elements - A detailed resource from Marshall Cavendish that discusses the origin, discovery, special characteristics, and importance of the 117 known elements, from aluminum to zirconium.
  • Encyclopedia Britannica Online Reference Center - An online version of the classic encyclopedia.  Includes a world atlas, time-lines, the Year in Review and the Merriam-Webster Dictionary and Thesaurus.
  • Facts On File - Includes extensive history databases, as well as Science Online, Health Reference Center, and Bloom's LIterary Reference Online.
  • Get a Library Card Online - apply for a library card online.
  • Historical New York Times with Index. Full text articles in PDF format from the New York Times from 1851 to 2006.
  • Interlibrary Loan Service  - If you can't find what you're looking for in the library catalog, you can email the library with an interlibrary loan request.  Please give your name and phone number and tell us as much as you know about the item you are seeking, especially title and author.  This service is available only to Cranford Public Library card holders.  Click here to see the library's Interlibrary Loan Policy in full.

  • ListenNJ - free downloadable audio books in MP3 format. Many titles are compatible with the iPod®, iPhone®, and iPod® Touch.
  • New Jersey Union List of Serials - a statewide database that shows the journal and magazine holdings of hundreds of New Jersey libraries.
  • NewsBank - Full text coverage of the Star-Ledger from 1996 to date, plus full text coverage of 28 popular magazines.
  • Online Book Clubs -  Every day, Monday through Friday, you will receive in your email a five-minute selection from a chapter of a book.  By the end of the week, you’ll have read 2-3 chapters. Every Monday a new book is started. Sign up and start reading.  Join one or more of 12 different clubs.
  • Price It! Antiques & Collectibles - Use Price It to identify, research and price art, antiques and collectibles.  Price It contains more than 23 million records, more than 10 million images, and is continuously updated.
  • Q and A  NJ - Connect online with a real librarian, one-to-one in real-time, for help with any topic or information need.

    • Books in Print - Provides bibliographic information on in print, out-of-print and forthcoming books and audio-books.  Books In Print also provides book synopses and reviews, a Fiction Connection reader’s advisory, the Fiction Room, which includes information on fiction series, recurring characters and award winning books, a Browse by Subject feature, and a Children’s Room reader’s advisory section.  
    • Corfacts - New Jersey's premier business-to-business directory.
    • Hoover's - an extensive business reference database that includes information about companies, people and industries, as well as business productivity tools.  Companies can be searched alphabetically, by business classification, geographically and by industry.
