The mission of the Cranford Recreation & Parks Department is to provide leisure programs and activities for the citizens of Cranford. The benefits of leisure services are designed to meet the mental, physical and social needs of our residents in the community, while enhancing the overall quality of life.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Who is able to use the Community Center? A. Any Cranford resident who can show identification with a Cranford address is welcome to use the facilities, which include the gym, game room and lounge area. Even if you attend school in Cranford but are not a resident you may not use the facilities.
Q. When is Open Gym? A. There is Open Gym if no camp or class is using the gym. The hours are posted in the building and online on our website www.cranford.com/rec
Q. When can I sign up for classes? A. Our Fall/Winter/Spring programs are included in the Cranford Township News, which is mailed to all Cranford residents early September. Registration usually begins the second Saturday in September for the Fall programs (Session 1). The Winter (Session 2) and Spring (Session 3) have their own registrations approximately 2 weeks before the start of the classes, although Session 1 students have 1st priority when it comes to enrolling in Session 2. The dates will be posted on the website.
Our Summer brochure is available in May with registration the first week of June.
Q. How do I reserve a room for a meeting at the Community Center? A. You must fill out an application available in our office or online. If approved, you will be notified by phone or mail.
If you are reserving a room for a Cranford non-profit organization there is no charge for the room. If the room reservation is for personal use, a business or a non-Cranford resident a room rental charge may apply.
Q. What do you have for Senior Citizens? A. Senior Citizen programs and clubs are for Cranford residents only. The programs are listed in our brochure. Clubs meet on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. For more information on senior programs, please call Roseann at 709-7283.
Q. What is Teen Center? A. Teen Center is held every Friday night (except in July and August) from 7 to 10 pm at the Community Center. Only students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade are permitted in the center during those hours. Effective September 2011, parental signatures are no longer required for children to leave the center. Teen Center is cancelled on dance nights which are the first Friday in December through March.
