Fundraising Gala 2019: History of the Theatre: ABRIDGED @ Elks Lodge | Summit | New Jersey | United States

Our annual fundraising party to support the nonprofit mission of Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre.

The celebration begins at the Elks Lodge, 40 Maple Street, in Summit at 6 pm with drinks and hors-d’oeuvres. Enjoy unlimited beer, wine and soft drinks followed by a delicious dinner. At 8 p.m., the Dreamcatcher ensemble will bring you the History of the Theatre: ABRIDGED, because who has the time for all those details? This highly selective and patently un-scholarly survey will take you from the Greeks through the present day, with all the boring stuff left out.

Dessert and coffee will follow the performance.

Date: Saturday, January 12, 2019
Time: 6 – 10 p.m.
Place: Elks Lodge, 40 Maple Street, Summit, NJ (2nd floor)
Tickets: $120 before December 28 / $135 after December 28
RSVP: by January 4, 2019

On the night of the party we will offer a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle, so you can take home goodies and support the theatre at the same time!

Your donation, in lieu of auctions and raffles at the event, can be made while purchasing your ticket, or live at the event.

You can purchase tickets by visiting brownpapertickets -> www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3899411

“Josephine: The Empress Gardened” @ Cranford Community Center
Jan 22 @ 7:00 pm
"Josephine: The Empress Gardened" @ Cranford Community Center | Cranford | New Jersey | United States
Please join the Hanson Park Conservancy on Tuesday, January 22 at 7:00 PM at the Cranford Community Center as we welcome Garden Historian Lesley Parness for a very special presentation, “Josephine—The Empress Gardened.”  Ms. Parness will discuss how French Empress Josephine’s fine taste informed 18th and 19th century style, from couture fashion to interior design.  Likewise, she was influenced by her Caribbean heritage, her narrow escape from the guillotine, and her legendary love for flowers.  When divorced from her husband, Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, this powerful style-maker and lifelong fashionista focused her energies on her estate, Malmaison. There, Josephine’s passion for plants grew and bloomed.  Her legendary love of roses stopped a war, cost a fortune, set explorers to sail, and started a floral industry that endures today.

Lesley Parness is the retired Superintendent of Horticultural Education at New Jersey’s Morris County Park Commission where she oversaw programming at The Frelinghuysen Arboretum, Willowwood Arboretum and Bamboo Brook Outdoor Education Center.  She is a member of the Herb Society of America, The Council on Horticultural and Botanical Literature, and Garden State Gardens, a consortium of New Jersey’s public gardens of which she is a Founding Member.

The Cranford Community Center is located at 220 Walnut Ave. in Cranford, NJ.  The program is free and open to the public.  No registration is required, but seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  This presentation is sponsored by the Hanson Park Conservancy.  To learn more, please visit our website, www.hansonparkconservancy.comor like us on Facebook.

Best childhood memories being dropped off at night by my Dad to skate a night. It was so exciting and fun. And I don’t think the steps are still there on the river but I use to lace up my skates there. Wonderful memories

Use to love skating from the foot bridge to the canoe club and playing hockey the good old days

Omg kids having fun on ice, not any more they might fall through and get wet in 3 feet of water, I spent countless hours skating the river with friends and playing hockey, glad I grew up in the 80’s in Cranford

Skating on the river is one of the best memories I have from growing up in Cranford in the '70s...we skated before school, after school, weekends at Nomahegan Lake...always great fun!

Gregory Urban best times when the river was frozen

We got off our butts when we were young kids and played outdoors. Everyone skated! We didn’t have cell phones and computers, yet we had real FUN😊🏈⚾️⚽️🏒⛸🏂

Really miss that. M. Kominek and I used to skate as fast as we could and see who could then slide the farthest on our backs. Mike always won.

I attempted to skate there many times. My brothers were great skaters and went there all the time...Great memories...

So much fun Julie—I had a little farther walk than you did to hop on the ice. ⛸⛸⛸

That is how we learned to skate!

I moved to Riverside Drive, just down the block from where the Casino stood, 86 years after this photograph was taken

Those sure were the days !! Loved skating on the river!! Such “good fun”💕💕

I loved coming home from.school.lacing up.and walking down to.the river to skate. The boys skip used to go.down by the Tressel and play hockey. So much fun doesn't freeze much bc of pollution. What a shame.

Me too! Skated until our toes were blue! Such wonderful memories.

Borne and raised in Cranford. Skating on the river was so much fun.

Some of didn't ice skate, so we would sled off the dikes onto the river.

This brings back so many wonderful memories.

Is that the Casino in the background?
