The Theater Project will present a staged, script-in-hand reading of Welcome the Stranger, including a discussion between the audience and playwright Stephanie Griffin. In Welcome the Stranger, homeowner Audrey puts her faith in a tale which says that if you bury a statue of St. Joseph upside down on your front lawn, he will help you sell your house quickly and for a profit. Audrey buries a statue and her life changes when a real-life Joseph digs his way out. Stephanie Griffin’s plays have been produced by many theatres across the NY-NJ metropolitan area. Headquartered at the Burgdorff Center in Maplewood, The Theater Project is an acclaimed professional theater group and the winner of two New Jersey Tony Awards. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Cranford Public Library. Admission is free and all are welcome.
