“How Trees Work” At Hanson Park @ Hanson Park

“How Trees Work”
 
Please join us at Hanson Park on Wednesday, August 21st at 10:00 AM for “How Trees Work,” an educational program for 3rd-5th graders.  During this free, hour-long class, students will learn all about trees from Master Tree Steward, Dean Talcott.  Some of the topics covered will include: why leaves fall, the types of trees in NJ, how to tell the age of a tree and all about maple sugaring.  A round of Tree Jeopardy will be played, all while enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the park.
 
Hanson Park is located at 38 Springfield Ave. in Cranford, NJ.  This program is recommended for children in third through fifth grade.  Registration is not required.  In the event of inclement weather, we will be relocating to the Cranford Community Center at 220 Walnut Ave.  This presentation is sponsored by the Hanson Park Conservancy, a non-profit group dedicated to developing and maintaining Hanson Park and providing the community with educational programs and workshops.  To learn more, please visit our website, www.hansonparkconservancy.com

The Cranford Recreation & Parks Department would like to announce that registration for Fall AND Winter programs begins on Tuesday,
September 10th, at 9:00am. Our Fall/Winter brochure, which lists all programs, will be mailed to Cranford residents and may also be viewed
on line at www.cranfordnj.org/recreation-parks or by following us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/CranfordRecreationAndParks and/or
Instagram at www.instagram.com/CranfordRecreationAndParks. All programs are for Cranford residents only. We are strongly encouraging registration for all classes to be done online through Community Pass. Online registration will enable you to register 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to make payment by credit card and to receive the latest program updates as they occur through your account. Please join us at Hanson Park (38 Springfield Ave., Cranford) as we celebrate Global Mala on Sunday, September 15th.  Global Mala is a celebration of mindfulness with a goal of wrapping the world in peace (the word mala means garland).  We will kick off the day at 10:30 AM with a free yoga class with Bridget Briant of YogaToGo.  Our Mala Workshop will begin at 12:00 PM with participants making prayer bead necklaces.  This workshop is $25 per person with a $10 deposit due by September 3rd.  Please go to YogaToGoNJ.com to register and pay.  This is a perfect opportunity to take in the beautiful surroundings of Hanson Park.  And don’t forget your yoga mat!
 
Bridget Briant is a classically trained yoga instructor who attained certification in 2002 at Nicole’s Yoga Center in Garwood, NJ.  She has studied many forms of yoga including Hatha, Ashtanga, Kriya, Raja and Kundalini.  She started teaching children in 2002 and adults at Rutgers University in 2003. Her style has evolved into a practical form of yoga, as her classes are tailored to meet the needs of her clients.

Kykuit, The Rockefeller Estate, Sleepy Hollow, NY

A majestic paradise with sweeping river views!
Kykuit was home to four generations of the Rockefeller family, beginning with the philanthropist John D. Rockefeller, founder of Standard Oil. His business acumen made him, in his day, the richest man in America. Now a historic site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, this extraordinary landmark has been continuously and meticulously maintained for more than 100 years.

Your Classic Tour includes the main floor of the house, art galleries, inner garden, golf room and coach barn. 2 hours 15 minutes including the shuttle bus ride. Round trip transportation, the Classic Tour and lunch included.

Notes: We recommend all Kykuit tours for ages 10 and up. They are not recommended for ages 5 and under, Strollers and backpack carriers are not permitted inside the house, but can be stored in the free lockers provided at the Kykuit Visitor Center at Philipsburg Manor. Neither the Classic Tour nor the Landmark Tour is wheelchair accessible due to the nature of the terrain. Historic Hudson Valley events are held rain or shine. All attendees must sign waiver.

Hanson Park Conservancy’s 9th Annual Rubber Ducky Derby is scheduled once again for Sunday, October 13, 2019 at 4 pm. On race day, over one-thousand individually numbered rubber ducks will be released in the Rahway River at Sperry Park, Cranford NJ and tumble over the falls racing to the finish line at the North Union Ave Bridge. Numerous prizes for the fastest lucky duckies will be awarded. The top prize is a $250.00 gift card.

Tickets can be purchased at two locations: Periwinkles, on North Union Avenue downtown Cranford, or the Cranford Canoe Club on Springfield Ave. Purchase a single Duck for $5.00 or a flock of 5 ducks for $20.00. Please secure your tickets early as ducks are limited and the race has been known to sell out.
