Scrap Metal Recycling @ See Details

Union County’s Scrap Metal Recycling program will continue on Thursday, August 5th, and Saturday, August 21st.   There are two (2) locations in Union County for residents to drop off their metal for recycling, one in Cranford and one in Rahway.  The location of the Cranford drop-off is the Emergency Services/ Traffic Enforcement facility located at 151 Kenilworth Boulevard.  The Rahway drop-off is located at the Rahway Service Yard located in Rahway River Park off of St. Georges Avenue.  The program is open from 9 am to 12 pm.  Residents can drop off old appliances, microwaves, air conditioners, and metal lawn furniture, to name a few.

Bring the young ones to the gazebo at the corner of North Union and Springfield avenues to have a story read to them starting at 10.

Household Hazardous Waste Event @ Union County Vo-Tech

Household Hazardous Waste Event will be held on Saturday, August 7th at the Union County Vo-Tech located at 1776 Raritan Avenue in Scotch Plains.  The event will be held from 9 am to 2 pm.  Items for drop-off include unwanted pesticides & herbicides, pool chemicals, gasoline, oil-based paints, and deck stain.  Latex Paint/Acrylic/Enamel (wall paint) is water-based and will NOT BE ACCEPTED.  It should be dried out and discarded with your regular garbage.

Mobile Paper Shredding Event @ Kean University

Union County is also continuing its Mobile Paper Shredding Events in August. The next event will be held on Saturday, August 14th at Kean University, which is located at 1000 Morris Avenue in Union Township. The event will run from 9 am to 1 pm or until the trucks get filled.  Residents can bring up to four bags of confidential documents per vehicle for shredding.  Please DO NOT bring materials that are wet or have already been shredded.
