Greta’s Run is the principal fundraiser for Greta’s Run Foundation, a volunteer-led, granting-making 501(c)3 nonprofit.
Greta’s Run is organized in memory of Greta Schoenemann, a Westfield High School freshman who died from injuries sustained on the first anniversary of 9/11 when a tree fell on her during lunch. Her childhood friends, Jayne Ruotolo and Ben Nanna, founded Greta’s Run in 2013, to continue the work Greta was already doing. In honor of Greta’s sister Elise, who has cerebral palsy, all proceeds benefit people with special & adaptive needs.
“The Westfield Public Schools join with the community in upholding the values of kindness and compassion that have become Greta’s legacy. The students, athletes and staff look forward to helping make Greta’s Run a success.”

Please join us on Sunday, April 28, 2019, at 2:00 pm at the Hanson House, 38 Springfield Avenue, for an afternoon of medieval music.
A marvelous player of the harp, Michele has been entertaining people for over 30 years on both the East and West Coasts at events ranging from weddings to historical reenactments. For our program, she will be dressed in a medieval costume and will play music from the period. To help us to understand the music, she will stop occasionally to talk about the composers and the times. Michele has made two full-length, independent CDs.
This program is free and all are welcome.

The 8th Annual Ladies Night Out will be held on Thursday, June 6, from 6 – 9 p.m. in downtown Fanwood! The event will offer participants an opportunity to enjoy music, mingling, and shopping to support our local merchants! Last year, hundreds of women lined up to register and pick up a goody bag filled with coupons for local businesses and tickets to win prizes at a tricky tray raffle.
The annual event is sponsored by the Greater Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce which represents Fanwood businesses and will feature many of the Borough’s downtown businesses. The event’s goal of increasing walk-in traffic in the Borough’s downtown has helped contribute to significant growth over the past several years.
We hope you will join us this year. For more information please visit gwaccnj.com
Visit the western frontier with RIDE, a concert of original music inspired by vocalist and guitarist Marc Berger’s lifelong love affair with the American West. RIDE captures the vastness and romance of the West while exploring its deep roots in the American psyche. Marc’s life has been about pursuing twin passions: creating and recording his American roots songs and exploring remote areas of the desert and mountain West. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Cranford Public Library.
After signing his first publishing contract while in law school, Marc Berger fronted rock bands and performed regularly in New York City clubs like CBGB, Wetlands, and The Knitting Factory. All through this period, he’d find ways to get into the West, picking up details from fellow wilderness junkies about off the beaten path locales and filing them away for future reference. On one of these trips, he became intrigued by the cover of The Big It, a book of short stories by A.B. Guthrie he found on a revolving paperback rack in a Navajo reservation trading post. It got him thinking about using his travels to create a set of songs in the cultural tradition of writers like Guthrie and visual artists like John Ford and Frederick Remington. With co-producer Mike Ricciardi, he recorded RIDE, ten cinematic recordings reflecting his romantic connection to the American West and exploring the value of its myths to contemporary culture.
Marc’s performed at Austin’s South by Southwest Music Festival and The Kerrville and Falcon Ridge Folk Festivals and has opened shows for Bob Dylan and other national acts. His song The Last One was a staple of Richie Havens’ concerts for years and has been quoted in the NY Times and featured on The CBS Evening News. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame describes Jimi Hendrix as “arguably the greatest instrumentalist in the history of rock music.” Hendrix expanded the range and vocabulary of the electric guitar into areas no musician had ever ventured before. Travel with Sixties Rock Historian Vinnie Bruno along Jimi’s road to superstardom: beginning with his early days as a band member on the Chitlin Circuit, to the launch of the Jimi Hendrix Experience in London, to his electrifying performances at Monterey Pop Festival and Woodstock, and to his final recordings at Electric Lady Studio. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Cranford Public Library.Vinnie Bruno is a Beatles Scholar and Sixties Rock Historian. He recently retired as Director of First Year Programs at LaGuardia Community College (City University of New York). He holds an MPA from Baruch College and as an adjunct professor for 25 years he taught courses in numerous disciplines including Humanities, Business and Mathematics. As a Sixties Rock Historian, he offers programs on extraordinary innovative artists who defined an era. Their creative musical landscapes captivated a generation, and their influence in popular culture still endures five decades later. Learn more about our speaker at vinniebeatles.com.
