Union County will host one more Mobile Paper Shredding Event in June; the event will be on Saturday, June 29 at the Union County Vo-Tech School located at 1776 Raritan Road in Scotch Plains. Union County will continue their Mobile Paper Shredding Program in July with events on Thursday, July 11th in Rahway River Park located off St. Georges Avenue in Rahway, and on Saturday, July 20th at the old Bristol Myers complex located at 1350 Liberty Avenue in Hillside. All events will run from 9 am to 1 pm or until the truck(s) get filled and there is a limit of four (4) bags or boxes of confidential documents per car. Please DO NOT bring material that is already shredded.
Union County’s Scrap Metal Recycling program also continues in July. The first Thursday event is canceled due to the July 4th holiday but the Third Saturday collection will be on Saturday, July 20th. There are two (2) locations in Union County for residents to drop off their metal for recycling, one in Cranford and Rahway. All locations will be open from 9 am to 12 pm. Residents can drop off old appliances, microwaves, air conditioners, and metal lawn furniture to name a few.

Our next household hazardous waste event is scheduled for Saturday, August 3, 2019, from 9 am to 2 pm at the Union County Vo Tech School located at 1776 Raritan Road in Scotch Plains. Items for drop off include old pesticides & herbicides, pool chemicals, gasoline, oil-based paints, and deck stain. Latex Paint (wall paint) is NOT ACCEPTED. It should be dried out and discarded in with your regular garbage. Car Tires will also be collected at this event.

Program is open from 9 am to 12 pm. Residents can drop off old appliances, microwaves, air conditioners, and metal lawn furniture to name a few.

Free Scrap Metal Recycling Drop-off Cancelled for August 6 Due to Storm Damage
Union County’s free scrap metal recycling program will not be held on Thursday, August 6, due to downed wires and other debris from Tropical Storm Isaias in Cranford and Rahway.
The program will resume on its regularly scheduled date of Saturday, August 15. Free scrap metal recycling is available to Union County residents at two drop-off locations:
· Cranford – Emergency Services Building at 151 Kenilworth Boulevard.
· Rahway – Rahway River Park, at the park maintenance yard.
Both locations are open for drop-offs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the first Thursday and third Saturday of each month, until November 21.
In order to prevent the spread of COVID-9, participants must wear face coverings, keep their windows closed, and stay in their vehicles at all times. Materials should be placed in the vehicle’s trunk, cargo area, or truck bed, easily accessible to staff, who will remove it from the vehicle.

- Each of the facilities has installed plexiglass dividers, safety signage, and hand sanitizer dispensers
- The building is open Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm; you are encouraged to call or email ahead to make certain the person you wish to see is available.
- We ask that you leave the building once you have completed your business.
- The Township installed secure lockboxes at the rear and Health Dept. entrances for your convenience so you don’t have to come into the building if you are dropping off items. You can use the boxes for tax payments, building, zoning and engineering applications and health forms.
