Free Scrap Metal Recycling Drop-off Cancelled for August 6 Due to Storm Damage

Union County’s free scrap metal recycling program will not be held on Thursday, August 6, due to downed wires and other debris from Tropical Storm Isaias in Cranford and Rahway.

The program will resume on its regularly scheduled date of Saturday, August 15. Free scrap metal recycling is available to Union County residents at two drop-off locations:

· Cranford – Emergency Services Building at 151 Kenilworth Boulevard.

· Rahway – Rahway River Park, at the park maintenance yard.

Both locations are open for drop-offs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the first Thursday and third Saturday of each month, until November 21.

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-9, participants must wear face coverings, keep their windows closed, and stay in their vehicles at all times. Materials should be placed in the vehicle’s trunk, cargo area, or truck bed, easily accessible to staff, who will remove it from the vehicle.

A complete list of accepted scrap metals, and information on all Union County recycling programs, is available online at ucnj.org/recycling or call the Recycling Hotline, 908-654-9889.

Beach Ball – Virtual Casino Night @ Virtual

As we have all heard, the COVID-19 pandemic is continuing to impact our society. For the safety of our guests, donors, volunteers, and students, the Foundation made the difficult decision to make this year’s Beach Ball Gala virtual. While we will be virtual, there are BIG plans in place to make this virtual gala a great time for our guests and a night to remember. We will be bringing back our virtual casino! This event is very special because we are honoring two important donors, DSM as our Corporate Partner of the Year and Mary Zimmermann, class of 2001, as our Fiat Lux award winner. We hope that you can join us on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at 6:00 PM to celebrate our wonderful honorees, while helping to ensure we have the ability to continue accelerating the pace of student success. For more information on this year’s exciting event, please call the Foundation office at 908.709.7505, e-mail us at [email protected] or click below to purchase your ticket today!

Westfield Area Y 2022 Golf Classic @ Echo Lake Country Club

Last year’s event was a great success, helping those in our community including families hit hard by the pandemic by providing financial assistance for YMCA programs like child care and day camp. This year’s event promises to be even better! Join us!

Play golf? The play format is a scramble. Best drive off the tee, and everyone plays their own ball from there. Prizes are awarded for both team performance and individual games of skill for both men and women.

Don’t play golf? Come for part two of our day: Enjoy a cocktail hour and hors d’oeuvres beginning at 5:45 PM, a silent auction, dinner with additional cash bar service, and a live auction facilitated by Assemblyman Jon Bramnick.

Sponsorships are available and are tax-deductible. All sponsors will be prominently listed in promotional materials, press releases, event signage, and our Annual Report. Sponsors of $2,500 or more will be included on a large banner displayed all year in the Y gymnasium; will have the opportunity to display their corporate banner at the event and are welcome to attend the cocktail hour/dinner at no additional fee.

Have access to potential auction items? We are always seeking new items and experiences for our live and silent auction. If you have access to a vacation home, tickets to sporting events, concerts, theatre, or dining, give us a call! We send you a letter for your donation, and the proceeds help a family in need participate at the Y.
