A Doll's House, Part 2 @ CDC Theatre

CDC Theatre in Cranford is mounting its first live production since Covid-19 restrictions forced the cancellation of all in-person activities at the 102-year-old theatre in March of 2020. A Doll’s House, Part 2 by Lucas Hnath, will be presented on June 11,12 at 8 pm and June 13 at 2 pm.
A modern sequel to Ibsen’s masterpiece A Doll’s House, audiences do not have to know the original to be drawn into this modern continuation of the story. It was shocking for audiences to watch Nora leave her husband and children in Ibsen’s 1879 play. How shocking is it for us, in 2021, to dive deeper into the reasons behind that fateful choice with playwright Lucas Hnath’s evolution of the story?

In A Doll’s House, Part 2, fifteen years have passed since Nora’s exit. Now, there’s a knock on that same door. Nora has returned. But why? And what will it mean for those she left behind?

Though suitable for a broad audience, some of the language makes the play inappropriate for younger children. All current pandemic restrictions and precautions will be enforced. Masks are mandatory for the entire performance and seating is limited. Tickets are available online at cdctheatre.org.

Hanson Park Conservancy Covid-19 Memorial Bench Fundraiser @ Virtual
Jun 15 all-day

Dear Friends of Hanson Park Conservancy,

Please help HPC honor those we’ve lost to COVID-19 by contributing to a Memorial Bench.
COVID-19 has taken the lives of over 150 residents of Cranford. HPC would like to honor those lives by placing a Memorial Bench next to the Butterfly Garden –– a beautiful and serene place for remembrance and reflection.

All proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to this memorial. Please contribute any dollar amount that you wish towards this memorial, which remembers our fellow residents. The bench is expected to be installed later this year and will include a plaque in tribute to those we’ve lost.

The unique Hanson Park benches are hand-made by a craftsman in upstate New York. They were chosen as part of the original design which envisioned a passive environmentally sensitive park along the Rahway River.
Tax-exempt contributions can be made by mailing a check directly to HPC PO Box 542, Cranford, NJ 07016, visiting our website at www.hansonparkconservancy.com, or through our Facebook page.

We’d like to thank the entire community of Cranford for always supporting HPC.
Feel free to visit the park at 38 Springfield Avenue, Cranford, NJ. Details on the bench installation will be provided at a later date.

Independence Day Fireworks Coming Back to Roselle Park

Roselle Park’s annual Independence Day celebration and fireworks show are coming back to the Borough on Thursday, July 1, 2021. Gates at Herm Shaw Field (214 West Colfax Avenue) will open to the general public at 5:00 p.m. The celebration will include food vendors, inflatables, activities, and live music by the Garden State Groove Band. The evening will conclude at dusk with a brief flag-raising ceremony that will kick off the best fireworks show in Union County. The event and all activities are free and open to the general public of all ages.

“With last year’s Independence Day fireworks show being canceled, I’m excited for their return this year. This event will not only be a celebration of our freedom as Americans but as a celebration of finally being able to come together as a community,” said Mayor Joseph Signorello.

Should inclement weather occur, the rain date is Monday, July 5th. For more information, please contact the Casano Community Center at (908)-245-0666.

The Borough thanks the sponsors that made this year’s event possible: Suburban Disposal, Inc., Neglia Engineering Associates, and the Union County Board of County Commissioners.
