The Union Area League of Women Voters and the Cranford Jaycees are proud to host the 2022 Township Committee Candidates’ Forum on Thursday, September 29 at 8:00 p.m. There are two three-year term committee positions on the ballot this year. The five candidates are (in alphabetical order):

This forum is open to the public and is an opportunity for candidates to present their platforms and answer questions regarding topics of interest to the Cranford community.
As in years past, questions will be solicited from the public for consideration of topics to be discussed. Questions should be for all candidates and can be submitted via email to cranfordcandidateforum@gmail.
The forum will be broadcast live on Tv35, and it will be stream online as well.
Residents ages 60 and older are invited to “Brunch and Boost 2022” — an event geared toward encouraging seniors to get their COVID-19 booster shots.
Hosted by the Union County Department of Human Services and the Division on Aging, the event will take place on Friday, Sept. 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Union Township Senior Center, located at 652 Rahway Avenue in Union Township.

- The material should be brought in Paper Bags whenever possible (not leaf bags)
- PLEASE DO NOT BRING SHREDDED PAPER • NO WET PAPER
- This event is garbage-free: boxes and plastic bags will be returned
- Limit papers to confidential/sensitive materials only

A free showing of the 2021 film “The Tragedy of Macbeth”. It will be taking place at the Plainfield Performing Arts Center, located at 724 Park Avenue in Plainfield on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 7:00 PM.
A powerful adaptation of Shakespeare’s play, the film stars Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand as the iconic married couple, who are willing to go to any means to take power over 11th-century Scotland. Nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Denzel Washington, this is a compelling and unique vision of a timeless work.

The Plainfield Performing Arts Center is handicapped-accessible. Parking is available in Municipal Lot #7 across the street from the Plainfield Performing Arts Center.

Union County’s Scrap Metal Recycling program will continue with two events in June. These events will take place on Thursday, June 1st and Saturday, June 17th. There are two (2) locations in Union County for residents to drop off their scrap metal for recycling, one in Cranford and one in Rahway. The location of the Cranford drop-off is the Emergency Services/ Traffic Enforcement facility located at 151 Kenilworth Boulevard. The Rahway drop-off is located at the Rahway Service Yard located in Rahway River Park off of St. Georges Avenue. The program is open from 9 am to 12 pm. Residents can drop off old appliances, microwaves, air conditioners, and metal lawn furniture, to name a few.
The next Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) event of 2023 season will take place on Saturday, June 3rd. It will take place at Kean University, which is located at 1000 Morris Avenue in Union Township. The event will be held from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The event will be held in the Kean Hall Parking Lot. Items for drop off include old pesticides & herbicides, pool chemicals, gasoline, oil-based paints and deck stain, and asbestos containing wastes, to name a few. Latex Paint/Acrylic/Enamel (wall paint) is water-based and is NOT ACCEPTED. It should be dried out and discarded in with your regular garbage. This event is drive-up only. There will be ample signage in place on campus to help residents find the event.
