Scrap Metal Recycling @ Various Locations

Union County’s Scrap Metal Recycling program will continue on Saturday, June 18th.   There are two (2) locations in Union County for residents to drop off their metal for recycling, one in Cranford and one in Rahway.  The location of the Cranford drop-off is the Emergency Services/ Traffic Enforcement facility located at 151 Kenilworth Boulevard.  The Rahway drop-off is located at the Rahway Service Yard located in Rahway River Park off of St. Georges Avenue.  The program is open from 9 am to 12 pm.  Residents can drop off old appliances, microwaves, air conditioners, and metal lawn furniture, to name a few.

Household Hazardous Waste Recycling @ Union County Vo-Tech
Aug 7 @ 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) event of 2022 will take place on Sunday, August 7th.  It will take place at the Union County Vo-Tech, which is located at 1776 Raritan Road in Scotch Plains.  The event will be held in the Police Academy Lot.  The event will be held from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.  Items for drop off include old pesticides & herbicides, pool chemicals, gasoline, oil-based paints and deck stain full and empty propane cylinders, and more.  Latex Paint/Acrylic/Enamel (wall paint) is water-based and is NOT ACCEPTED.  It should be dried out and discarded in with your regular garbage.  This event is drive-up only.

Cranford Historical Society Fall Festival @ Crane-Phillips House Museum

Cranford Historical Society Fall Festival @ Crane-Phillips House Museum

This year, we celebrate our 95th anniversary preserving and perpetuating the history of the township of Cranford.  On Sunday, September 18th, from 1- 5 pm,  the Society will re-open the Crane-Phillips House Museum for a tour with a FALL FESTIVAL outside.  We will have crafters showing and selling their crafts and face painting, balloon making and crafts for the children.  Dreyer Farms will be on hand selling their mums, pumpkins, bales of hay, corn stalks, pies and donuts.  The Cranford Historical Society will sell ice cream cones and ice cream sodas and will have garage sale items, used books and our merchandise for sale.  We will also have a history basket raffle and a 50/50 chance.

The society is looking for Crafters, face painting artists, balloon making artists and a band.  All spaces are $20 and must bring your own table and chair.  If you can participate, call or email us!

'Brunch And Boost': Union County Hosts Vaccine Event For Seniors @ Township Of Union Senior Center

Residents ages 60 and older are invited to “Brunch and Boost 2022” — an event geared toward encouraging seniors to get their COVID-19 booster shots.

Hosted by the Union County Department of Human Services and the Division on Aging, the event will take place on Friday, Sept. 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Union Township Senior Center, located at 652 Rahway Avenue in Union Township.

Free Showing of “The Tragedy of Macbeth” @ Plainfield Performing Arts Center

A free showing of the 2021 film “The Tragedy of Macbeth”. It will be taking place at the Plainfield Performing Arts Center, located at 724 Park Avenue in Plainfield on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 7:00 PM.

A powerful adaptation of Shakespeare’s play, the film stars Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand as the iconic married couple, who are willing to go to any means to take power over 11th-century Scotland. Nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Denzel Washington, this is a compelling and unique vision of a timeless work.
