Cranford Calendar

The Cranford Historical Society’s Crane-Phillips House Museum at 124 North Union Avenue will once again participate in Union County’s Annual “Four Centuries in a Weekend.” The museum will be open on Saturday, October 19th from 10:00am to 5:00pm and on Sunday, October 20th from 12:00pm to 5:00pm. This year’s theme is “Saving The Past and Moving Forward to Technology of the Present.”
The Crane-Phillips House Museum, a Victorian Cottage, modest home of the 1870’s, shows what life was like without plumbing or electricity. During Four Centuries in a Weekend, visitors will see how implements in the kitchen and throughout the house have evolved through technology and pictures will be at each implement showing the technology of today. All of the inventions in the past are hands on to all who would like to try them to see what it was like to do household chores, etc. Also, Trustees and Volunteers will be on hand to give a tour of each room in the unique living museum which is on the National and State Registry.
Materials for the weekend tour are available from the Union County Division of Cultural and Heritage Affairs Office and will be at all sites. The materials include a booklet featuring photos and info about each site with a map showing the locations. For more info, please call the Union County Division of Cultural and Heritage Affairs at 908-558-2550 or visit http://ucnj.org/parks-

Roselle Park – The Borough of Roselle Park and the U.S. Census Bureau will be co-hosting a job fair for residents interested in working for the U.S. Census Bureau in late 2019 and early 2020.
The 2020 Census Job Fair is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at the Casano Community Center (314 Chestnut Street).
At this job fair and information session, people will be able to learn about why the census is important to their community and find out what job opportunities are available to the residents of Roselle Park. Applications can be completed online. Applicants can even use their smartphones to apply. Census staff will be available to help with the application and answer questions.
The U.S. Census Bureau is looking to hire 63,000 people in the state of New Jersey for a variety of positions. There are field positions (e.g. enumerators) and office positions (e.g. clerks and IT specialists) available. The hours are flexible. Once hired you give the U.S. Census Bureau your hours of availability each week and you will only be asked to work during those hours. You are paid for training as well.
The goal of the 2020 census is to “count everyone once, only once, and in the right place,” the Census Bureau says. The United States holds a census every 10 years.
Those interested in a 2020 census job can apply online at www.2020census.gov/jobs.
