The night will be a celebration of people with autism

Welcome to the 7th annual Night to Shine VIRTUAL Gala and Concert shining a light on achievements in autism! Although we prefer to see everyone in person, we don’t want to miss an opportunity to celebrate and display the accomplishments of people with autism and those who are tirelessly working on their behalf to ensure people with autism live life to the fullest!

When: Wednesday, June 17 at 8 pm ET

Details:

  • Doug Flutie and the Flutie Brother’s Band performance, a debut song from our Flutie Foundation Virtual Choir, and an amazing performance from viral singing sensation Lavender Darcangelo!
  • Presentation of the Carol Ann Iverson Award to Lavender with a very special appearance from her favorite performer!
  • Silent Auction opens on June 8
  • Live Auction opens on June 17 during the event

Scrap Metal Recycling Event @ Union County College

Union County’s Scrap Metal Recycling program will start on Saturday, June 20th.   The location of the Cranford drop off has been changed to Union County College, for the month of June only.  Program is open from 9 am to 12 pm.  Residents can drop off old appliances, microwaves, air conditioners, and metal lawn furniture to name a few.

The Cranford Father’s Day tradition continues with the annual Leonard Snyder Memorial Fishing Derby brought to you by the Cranford Jaycees. This year, you can fish anywhere and anytime on Father’s Day, June 21st. To enter the competition, register at the link above, and post a picture of your catch with its measurements right here on this event page. We’ll announce winners by age group on 6/22.

While we can’t all meet at Nomahegan Park this year, there may be a few extra fish in the pond, should you choose to fish there. 😉 Wherever you fish, please follow all social distancing guidelines.

Union County is also kicking off their Mobile Paper Shredding Events in June with a weekend of shredding!  The events will be held on Saturday, June 27th, and Sunday, June 28th at the Union County Vo Tech School located at 1776 Raritan Road in Scotch Plains. Both events will run from 9 am to 1 pm or until the truck(s) get filled.  Residents can bring up to four bags of confidential documents per vehicle for shredding.  Please DO NOT bring material that is already shredded.

The Fourth of July Firecracker Road Race is going virtual for its 41st year! Run or walk the Firecracker Four-Miler, One Mile Fun Run, or Open Run at the location of your choice (following all safety regulations).

– High school students & younger: $18 + $2 processing fee, includes souvenir race shirt
– Adults: $30 + $2 processing fee, includes souvenir race shirt, plus pint glass (limited to the first 400 entrants).
Register by 6/22 to guarantee t-shirt pickup before the race.

All proceeds go towards the Jaycees Scholarship Fund and other beneficiaries from our general fundraising fund.

Join our livestream here starting at 8:15 AM including the National Anthem and with the traditional canon blast at 9:00 AM to start the race.
