Return to Play/50th Anniversary Mudturtle Rugby Fundraiser Fun Run @ Virtual
Mar 1 all-day
Return to Play/50th Anniversary Mudturtle Rugby Fundraiser Fun Run @ Virtual
DESCRIPTION

The Union County Rugby Football Club, located in New Jersey, has been in operation since 1974 and touts over 1,000 club members from kindergarten age to adult. We offer both touch and tackle rugby teams that play year-round. The Club will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary in three short years, and we are beginning to fundraise and draw awareness to this monumental event. In addition to the 50th, we are also preparing to start a modified season, our first since we lost 2 full seasons to the Coronavirus Pandemic. Since we were not able to gather on the field last year, we have decided to host a virtual race encompassing all of the rugby clubs in NJ to foster some friendly competition and to get people excited for the possible restart of competitive play this Spring.

Challenge yourself to one (or multiple) of the virtual race options by logging your total accumulated mileage over a time frame of your choosing. (doesn’t have to be done all at once & you can walk, run, or bike!)

If you sign up for 2 races at the same time you will receive a 10% discount on your registration automatically.

The Home Field Loop: 13.1 miles covers the same distance you would if you were to travel between all of the pitches Union County Rugby plays home games on. This would take you from Rahway River Park in Rahway to Madison Avenue Park also in Rahway, to Unami Park in Cranford, to Warinaco Park in Roselle, and back to the start at Rahway River Park.

The River Run: 42 miles is the combined distance of the two mightiest waterways running through Union County, the Rahway River, and the Elizabeth River.

The Jersey Cup: 257 Miles is a daunting task, but covers the same distance you would if you hopped in your car to tour all of the home pitches of New Jersey’s NINE rugby clubs. This route goes south to north and would take you from Jersey Shore to South Jersey to Monmouth to Princeton to Union to Bayonne to Morris to Montclair to North Jersey. This event has its own special medal and shirt that are different from the Home Field Loop and The River Run.

HOW IT WORKS:

  • Register for any of the challenges
  • The event has just begun! You have until June 30, 2021, to submit results!
  • Log your workouts and distances on the results page (click here)
  • We’ll ship your awesome race swag to your door!

Drive-Thru Food Collection @ Cranford United Methodist Church
Join us for the next Drive-Thru Food Collection event from 10 am to 2 pm in the church’s parking lot, as the pandemic rages on and our neighbors are still struggling to keep food on the table.
Place your bags of non-perishable food in your trunk, drive up, pop your trunk and volunteers will remove them, no contact needed! Your food donations will be delivered to Cranford Family Care (https://www.facebook.com/CranfordFamilyCares), St. Joseph’s Social Services, and other local organizations serving families in need. Last month we delivered 8 vans loaded full to the brim!
Here are examples of especially needed items: Cooking oil, tuna, boxed milk, spices, salt, pepper, tea and coffee, sugar, flour, crackers, soup, cereal, canned vegetables, rice in 1-2 lb. packages (not large bags), cake mix and frosting, dish detergent, soap and paper goods.
There is also a special need for bags of fresh produce, for example, apples, onions, potatoes, sweet potatoes, ginger, garlic, celery, jicama, beets, and other hardy fresh produce.
Can’t make that date? There are bins placed outside the entrance to the church off of the parking lot where donations can be dropped at any time.
Mark your calendars for the next two food drives: April 10 and May 8. Same time, the same location.

Hanson Park Conservancy Covid-19 Memorial Bench Fundraiser @ Virtual
Mar 9 all-day

Dear Friends of Hanson Park Conservancy,

Please help HPC honor those we’ve lost to COVID-19 by contributing to a Memorial Bench.
COVID-19 has taken the lives of over 150 residents of Cranford. HPC would like to honor those lives by placing a Memorial Bench next to the Butterfly Garden –– a beautiful and serene place for remembrance and reflection.

All proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to this memorial. Please contribute any dollar amount that you wish towards this memorial, which remembers our fellow residents. The bench is expected to be installed later this year and will include a plaque in tribute to those we’ve lost.

The unique Hanson Park benches are hand-made by a craftsman in upstate New York. They were chosen as part of the original design which envisioned a passive environmentally sensitive park along the Rahway River.
Tax-exempt contributions can be made by mailing a check directly to HPC PO Box 542, Cranford, NJ 07016, visiting our website at www.hansonparkconservancy.com, or through our Facebook page.

We’d like to thank the entire community of Cranford for always supporting HPC.
Feel free to visit the park at 38 Springfield Avenue, Cranford, NJ. Details on the bench installation will be provided at a later date.

UCEDC Free Webinar: Your Credit & You @ Virtual
March 9, 2020 | 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
It probably doesn’t take long for any business owner who applies for a business loan to discover that their personal credit impacts their ability to qualify. Personal credit plays an important role in your business. Small or start-up businesses have not had the chance to establish business credit, so their access to capital is linked directly to the owner’s credit. In this workshop, we’ll cover:
  • What are credit scores?
  • Credit myths
  • How are credit scores calculated?
  • Changing your credit score
  • What types of financing are available
  • What lenders look for
In addition to these items, we’ll distribute a sample credit report and go through the details with you to give you a hands-on experience of interpreting a credit report.
