Wednesday, August 15 at 7:30 pm at the Cranford Community Center. Honored as a peacemaker and virtuoso, Amir Vahab is a composer/vocalist and lecturer specializing in a wide variety of traditional Persian instruments: the tanbour, ney, daf, tar and oud. Amir is noted for his expertise in Persian culture and history, and for the spirituality present in his music and teachings. His songs weave fiery instrumentals and melodies of the ancient lands of the Middle East that include Persian, Turkish, Azeri and beyond.

Veterans and dependents of veterans: The Cranford Public Library presents a valuable healthcare information session. David Brimmer, MS, of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs New Jersey Health Care System, will visit the Cranford Community Center to speak about health care benefits available to veterans and dependents. He will also discuss the process for filing a claim for VA Service-Connected Disability Compensation.

The VA New Jersey Health Care System honors America’s veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being. With two main campuses and ten community-based outpatient clinics in NJ, they have been a lifeline for those in need as part of the Veterans’ Health Administration, serving U.S. veterans for over 150 years.

No registration is required for this free event.

There is no required reading, and you will have the opportunity to learn about books recommended by other group members. Refreshments will be served, courtesy of the Friends of the Cranford Public Library! Registration is not required. Attend as many sessions as you’d like. Admission is free and all are welcome. Sessions take place in the Raddin Room, and are one hour long.

The Theater Project will present a staged, script-in-hand reading of an original play from its Playwrights Workshop, including a discussion between the audience and the author. Theatergoers will enjoy Making Sense of the Universe… One Comedy at a Time!, a collection of short plays of comic absurdity by Luigi Januzzi, author of 27 published plays. The Community Center is located at 220 Walnut Avenue.

Headquartered at the Burgdorff Center in Maplewood, The Theater Project is an acclaimed professional theater group and the winner of two New Jersey Tony Awards. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Cranford Public Library. Admission is free and all are welcome.

CRANFORD’S ANNUAL DUCKY DERBY RETURNS THIS OCTOBER

Hanson Park Conservancy’s Eighth Annual Rubber Ducky Derby is scheduled once again for
Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 4 pm. On race day, over one-thousand individually numbered
rubber ducks will be released in the Rahway River at Sperry Park and tumble over the falls
racing to the finish line at the North Union Ave Bridge. Numerous prizes for the fastest lucky
duckies will be awarded. The top prize is a $250.00 gift card.

Tickets can be purchased at two locations: Periwinkles, on North Union Avenue downtown
Cranford, or the Cranford Canoe Club on Springfield Ave. Purchase a single Duck for $5.00 or a
flock of 5 ducks for $20.00. Please secure your tickets early as ducks are limited and the race
has been known to sell out.

All proceeds benefit Hanson Park maintenance and educational programs. If you have not yet
walked through this lovely little park, please visit this hidden gem located at 38 Springfield Ave.

They’re back! It’s time for one of the anticipated events of the year, the Scarecrow Stroll. Come downtown and check out over 100 scarecrows lining the streets. The scarecrows are created by families, kids, groups, organizations, classes, and businesses. Make sure you bring your ballot and vote for your favorite.

Learn more at The New Jersey Cranberry, a Public Scholars Project lecture sponsored by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities featuring teas and food scholar Judith Krall-Russo. This fascinating look at one of New Jersey’s iconic foods will take place on Saturday, October 20 at 1:00pm at the Cranford Community Center, located at 220 Walnut Avenue.
