The Union County Freeholder Board will hold a dedication and ribbon-cutting for the Jeff Torborg youth baseball field on Saturday, Sept. 7th 1 p.m. at Echo Lake Park in Mountainside. All are welcome to attend.
Torborg, a Westfield native who also lived in Mountainside for 30 years, managed five Major League Baseball teams—the Indians, White Sox, Mets, Expos, and Marlins–after a 10-year baseball career as a catcher for the Dodgers and Angels. He also coached the Yankees for ten years.
Torborg was also an All-State catcher for Westfield High School and an All-American catcher at Rutgers University. Torborg will be on hand for the dedication with his wife, Suzi, and family members. Representatives from Major League Baseball are also expected to be on hand.
