Tax Preparation Workshop for Seniors @ Chisholm Community Center

Join Representative Malinowski for a presentation on what seniors need to know before filing their 2019 taxes. The workshop will feature various resources and programs seniors can use to prepare their taxes before the April deadline.

The Congressman’s constituent services representatives will also be in attendance to provide assistance to anyone struggling with IRS, Social Security, or Medicare issues.

It’s a new way to Tricky Tray at St. Michael School in Cranford!

You’re invited to St. Michael School’s Tricky Tray on Saturday, October 17th, 100 Alden Street in Cranford.  Guests may enter through St. Michael’s Lane, located at the back of the school.
Doors will be open for Tricky Tray ticket purchases and drops from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm. Social distancing guidelines will be followed. Masks/face coverings are required inside of the school building.
Hundreds of amazing prizes including gift certificates for local dining and shopping, Apple Air Pods, Apple iPad, Amazon Echo, Toshiba 32″ Smart Television, Xbox One, and designer handbags just to name a few. Great gifts for everyone on your holiday shopping list.
Admission is FREE.  Tricky Tray ticket prices are as follows:
  • Green Level Prizes (valued up to $149) 26 ticket sheet for $20
  • White Level Prizes (valued $150-$349) 3 tickets for $10 or 8 tickets for $20
  • Gold Level Prizes (valued $350 & above) 1 ticket for $5 or 5 tickets for $20

Offering both individual small plates and family dinner options. Food orders need to be placed directly with The Garlic Rose by Tuesday, October 13th by calling (908) 276-5749.  Pick-up will be between 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 17th.
Winners may collect their prizes on Sunday, October 18th at the school.  Between the hours of 10:00am – 1:00pm or 4:00pm – 7:00pm. Winning tickets must be presented to collect prizes.

WESTFIELD AREA YMCA AND BRAIN INJURY ALLIANCE OF NJ HOST A FREE VIRTUAL AND IN-PERSON LECTURE ON BALANCE, FALL PREVENTION, AND PEDESTRIAN SAFETY

The Westfield Area YMCA is hosting a free program entitled “Heads Up Seniors” focused on fall prevention and pedestrian safety on Tuesday, March 29 at 12:30 pm.  Presented by the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey, the program will be accessible via Zoom or in-person at the Main Y Facility located at 220 Clark Street in Westfield.  The Zoom meeting ID is 824 5522 2211.  The password is 236782.

Objectives of the workshop are:

  • To provide strategies to best prevent falls
  • To provide a safety checklist to anticipate and prevent potential hazards
  • To educate pedestrians to walk and drive safely
  • An interactive game is included.

Residents ages 60 and older are invited to “Brunch and Boost 2022” — an event geared toward encouraging seniors to get their COVID-19 booster shots.

Hosted by the Union County Department of Human Services and the Division on Aging, the event will take place on Friday, Sept. 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Union Township Senior Center, located at 652 Rahway Avenue in Union Township.

WESTFIELD AREA YMCA HOSTS FREE SENIOR OPEN HOUSE @ Westfield Area YMCA
The Westfield Area YMCA announces a free Senior Open House at the Main Y Facility, located at 220 Clark Street in Westfield on Wednesday, November 30.  All activities are free for the community and include various full-length and demo-length land and water fitness classes such as Gentle Yoga, Bone Smart, Arthritis Aquatic Exercise and more.  Y staff members will be available for information on Y programs such as personal training, Parkinson’s classes, social programs and Pickleball.  Tech help and balance screenings by Ivy Rehab will also be offered.
