The Cranford Clay Courts Club, located on Springfield Avenue in Cranford, is currently accepting new members for the 2019 Season.
The Club offers a long outdoor tennis season, with the courts usually open from April into December in recent years, depending upon weather conditions.
In addition, the club enjoys the distinction of being the only outdoor tennis club in the area with a lighting system for night play on the Club’s well-maintained three har-tru (soft) courts.
The culture and communal aspect of the club offers members the somewhat unique opportunity to “find a game” without needing to bring a partner, particularly on weekday and weekend mornings. There are several social events throughout the season, Monday night open mixed doubles and clinics on Sunday afternoons at 4pm.

Free performance of the renowned play, The Colored Museum, on Friday, October 18th beginning at 8:00 p.m. at The Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway.
The Colored Museum was written in 1986 by George C. Wolfe. It provides a window into the struggles and resilience of African Americans through 11 vignettes, each focusing on a different “exhibit” bringing forth themes of racism, stereotypes, and African American cultural identity, enabling the audience to reexamine the history of African Americans.

The Cranford Historical Society’s Crane-Phillips House Museum at 124 North Union Avenue will once again participate in Union County’s Annual “Four Centuries in a Weekend.” The museum will be open on Saturday, October 19th from 10:00am to 5:00pm and on Sunday, October 20th from 12:00pm to 5:00pm. This year’s theme is “Saving The Past and Moving Forward to Technology of the Present.”
The Crane-Phillips House Museum, a Victorian Cottage, modest home of the 1870’s, shows what life was like without plumbing or electricity. During Four Centuries in a Weekend, visitors will see how implements in the kitchen and throughout the house have evolved through technology and pictures will be at each implement showing the technology of today. All of the inventions in the past are hands on to all who would like to try them to see what it was like to do household chores, etc. Also, Trustees and Volunteers will be on hand to give a tour of each room in the unique living museum which is on the National and State Registry.
Materials for the weekend tour are available from the Union County Division of Cultural and Heritage Affairs Office and will be at all sites. The materials include a booklet featuring photos and info about each site with a map showing the locations. On Monday, February 10th, at noon the Freeholder Board will recognize the 400th anniversary of the transatlantic slave trade and its reverberations in our lives today with a free educational “Lunch and Learn” event. This event will take place in the Freeholder meeting room on the 6th floor in the Union County administration building in Elizabeth. Volunteers are asked to signup and will be assigned a location. We will send you an email with your location on Thursday, October 8th. Your email will give you the exact details of your location, the jobs you will be doing that day, and any equipment you may need to bring with you.
We are incredibly excited that you are considering joining us to help rebuild the history of the Heritage Corridor along the Riverwalk and restore the beauty of this part of our town. Together our efforts rejuvenate our environment and our community.
Date: 10/10/2020 (Sat.) Time: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm EDT Location: Volunteers will be assigned to either a cleanup location on the Southern section at Droescher’s Mill Park or at the Northern section at Sperry Park. An email with your assignment will be sent by October 8th.
