Red Ribbon Day @ Nomahegan Park

Saturday at Nomahegan Park, come out for the 24th Annual Union County Red Ribbon Day Drug Prevention Walk and Family Fall Fun Festival.

Red Ribbon locally and nationally serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to increase awareness and support for substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery. Now more than ever, it is crucial for us as community members to stand together & fight to end the overdose epidemic, support recovery, and keep our children safe. This event raises funds for that effort and combines it with free games and entertainment, food trucks, and more.

Downtown Souperhero Stroll @ Downtown Cranford
Jan 14 all-day
Downtown Souperhero Stroll @ Downtown Cranford

Cranford’s third annual Souperhero Stroll returns to town on January 14 and 15, 2023.

A collaboration between Downtown Cranford and Cranford High School Class of 2023 Project Graduation, the Souperhero Stroll gives people a taste of a variety of soups from Cranford restaurants, while also raising funds for Project Graduation.

Over 15 restaurants will be participating in the event this year and the giant balloon sculptures of comic book and real-life superheroes are created by DreamFactory Balloons.

The Souperhero Stroll is one of many events that help support Project Graduation. They hosted a football mania sweepstakes and a holiday lights tour around town in late 2022. Coming up in April is the annual CHS Prom Fashion Show, which made its post-COVID return last year and an adult social. A food truck festival is also planned for later in the spring. Sponsorship opportunities for Project Graduation are also still available, McDonald said. There are different levels of sponsorship, which include the graduation program book as well as advertising at Project Graduation. Those interested should contact [email protected].

There are four chances during the Stroll to warm up with a taste of soup. There is a 12-2 and a 2-4 time slot for both Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $10 per soup-taster and include a booklet with a ticket for each of the participating restaurants. If you are interested in purchasing tickets, click here.

Any family, business or organization interested in sponsoring a balloon sculpture should contact Downtown Cranford for more details.

WESTFIELD AREA YMCA HOSTS PIZZA PALOOZA @ Westfield Area YMCA
Oct 1 @ 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm
WESTFIELD AREA YMCA HOSTS PIZZA PALOOZA @ Westfield Area YMCA | Westfield | New Jersey | United States

The Westfield Area YMCA is proud to host Pizza Palooza on Sunday, October 1 from 12:30-2:00pm in the gym at the Main Y, 220 Clark Street.  Tasting and voting will be from 12:30-1:30pm with the first, second and third place winners announced at 1:45pm.

Taste your way through participating Westfield, Garwood and Mountainside pizzerias and pick your favorite to win … everyone ages 4+ has a vote!  As of September 19, participating pizzerias are Calabria Pizzeria in Cranford, Rudy’s Italian Restaurant in Garwood, and Casa Di Pizza, Ferraro’s, Fiamma Wood Fired Pizza and Outta Hard Pizza in Westfield.

A $15 contribution for adults and children ages 4+ benefits the Y’s Annual Support Campaign, which ensures that no one who is experiencing a bona fide financial hardship and lives or works in Westfield, Cranford, Garwood or Mountainside is turned away for inability to pay for Y programs or memberships.  The majority of awards enable participation in the Y’s early learning, school age and summer day camp programs.

Children ages 3 and under are free.  Online registration is available at www.westfieldynj.org or you can call or register in person.  Advance registration is strongly recommended.  Please contact Kim Koza at (908) 301-9622 x253 or email [email protected] with any questions.
