The Thornstick Mass will start the day, and be hosted in conjunction with the Elizabeth A.O.H. at St. Patrick’s Church in Elizabeth.

The Reviewing Stand Festivities at Morris and Stuyvesant Avenues in Union begin. Enjoy the “Kid’s Zone”, fun for all ages on Stuyvesant Ave. (just off Morris Ave.)

The Parade begins with the Marching units gathered on Morris Avenue and along Commerce and Jeanette Avenues. The parade route proceeds east along Morris Avenue to a turn at the Main Reviewing Stand at Stuyvesant Ave. and ends at Roosevelt Avenue.

The Midway Reviewing Stand at Morris and Caldwell Avenues has parade announcers with details of all of the participants, history and other information. It’s a great place to watch the parade!

We’re looking to help 20 of the best League of Legends High School gamers in New Jersey get recruited by colleges after graduation.

This event will take 20 applicants from across NJ and place them into 4 teams. On Saturday, May 4th, these teams will face off in a bracket while coached by the current Union Owls team. At the event, you’ll be playing live on stream, participating in interviews, and you’ll also receive a professional Esports headshot. You’ll also have the opportunity to speak with the coaching staff of the Union Owls to learn more about what collegiate esports looks like. All of this will take place in the official Union Owls training space at Union County College in Cranford, NJ.

If you are a high schooler looking to compete in collegiate League of Legends, this is your perfect starting point to getting recruited.

Covenant House provides these homeless young people with safe shelter and wrap-around services, including education and job training, so they can move forward to an adulthood free of poverty and the threat of homelessness.

Sign up to Sleep Out with us! Fundraise for Covenant House to keep the lights on and the doors open for kids in need. Then, spend an evening getting to know some of the young people whose lives will be better because of your efforts on their behalf – and spend the rest of the night sleeping on the street in their place.

In the spirit of the National Memorial Day Program, the Cranford Memorial Day Committee will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27, 2019. Members of the Governing body of Garwood will participate in the parade and all residents are encouraged to attend.

The parade will assemble at 8:30 a.m. at the Cranford Community Center, 220 Walnut Avenue, Cranford, New Jersey. Marching will start at 9 a.m. The parade will finish with services at approximately 10 a.m. at Memorial Park on Springfield Avenue. In case of inclement weather, services only will be held at the Community Center.

Borough of Roselle Park Annual Memorial Day Parade, Service, and Town Wide Picnic @ Sherman Elementary School

The Borough of Roselle Park will be holding its Annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27, 2019, at 10 a.m. from the Sherman Elementary School.

The parade will feature Color Guards, Veterans Groups, Police Vehicles, Newark Mounted Police and Motorcycle Units, Community Groups, Scouts, School Bands, High School Clubs, Classic Cars, Jeeps, Motorcycles, Fire Trucks, Union County EMS, DPW Vehicles, and more! The Parade will begin at the Sherman School on East Grant Avenue and proceed past the reviewing stand on Chestnut Street and the corner of East Grant Avenue ending on the grounds of the Veterans’ Memorial Library.

Immediately after the parade, a memorial service will be held at the library to honor those who sacrificed their lives for our country. The service will begin with an invocation by Rev. Fr. James F. Spera of the Church of the Assumption, followed by remarks by Mayor Sig. The Pledge of Allegiance will be led by members of the Roselle Park Scout Troops, followed by the National Anthem by Mariann Brenner. Afterward, the introduction of Post Commanders of American Legion Post #60, George Szollosi and the Catholic War Veterans Post #866, and Union County American Legion Commander Michael Connelly.

The Mayor will welcome and present a proclamation to Grand Marshal Jan F. Cook and will be followed by his remarks. The service will continue with remarks by state and county officials. A Military Medley by The Roselle Park High School Marching Band will be performed under the direction of Bob Masucci. The Mayor will read the Roselle Park Honor Roll of those who gave their lives for their country, followed by a gun salute by the American Legion Post #60 firing squad. Roselle Park High School Band will play “Taps.” Reverend Manuel Cruz Jr. of the Community United Methodist Church will close the service with a benediction, followed by “God Bless America” performed by Mariann Brenner, and the Memorial Service will end with bagpipes played by Pat Hinds.

Children who are not part of Scouts or Marching Band are encouraged to patriotically decorate their bicycles and participate in the parade. (Note: TV 34 and Photographer will be looking for patriotically decorated bikes in particular! 

After the service, Mayor Sig and The Borough Council invite everyone to the town picnic at the Casano Community Center where they will serve hot food to residents.

Vietnam Veteran Jan F. Cook Named 2019 Memorial Day Parade Grand Marshal

Vietnam Veteran Jan F. Cook will serve as the Grand Marshal of the 2019 Memorial Day parade in the Borough of Roselle Park.

Mr. Cook was born in 1952 and was raised and educated in Elizabeth, New Jersey. While attending Roosevelt High School in Elizabeth, he entered the U.S. Military in 1969 at age 17. After his training at Fort Dix, Mr. Cook attended Jump School Wiesbaden in Germany. He was assigned to the 1/509 Airborn Infantry Brigades until 1975. He was reinstated in 1979 with the 50th Armored Division Discom Class Five. During his service, Mr. Cook was decorated with numerous Awards and Medals.

After 31 years of serving his country, he left the service as E-7 in 1999 and entered into the IRR (Inactive Ready Reserve.)

Upon returning, Mr. Cook became a Pass Commander and a life member with American Legion Post No. 60 of Roselle Park, and with the Downtown Veterans Association of Elizabeth. He is also a member of VFW 7363 of Clark, New Jersey.

Mr. Cook is married to his beautiful wife Mary of 38 years and was blessed with two boys Tommy and Frankie.

Mr. Cook retired from Wakefern Food Corporation in 1999 and has been a resident of Linden, New Jersey since 1984. He enjoys his free time involved in several interests and spends time with his friends at the Roselle Park Veterans Memorial Library and American Legion Post No. 60.

The Borough’s parade assembly will begin at 9:00 a.m. at Sherman Elementary School and will step off at 10:00 a.m. from the school on East Grant Avenue, marching toward Chestnut Street.

Marching will pause for 3 minutes for each group to display their talent and achievements at the viewing stand in front of the Methodist Church on Chestnut Street and end at the Roselle Park Veterans Memorial Library for the annual Memorial Day service.

After the service, everyone is invited to the Town Picnic at the Casano Community Center (free food and refreshments) hosted by the Borough.

Mayor Signorello and the Borough Council honor the memories and service of veterans of all wars and invite everyone to attend the parade and service.

Pedals for Progress rescues bicycles and sewing machines destined for overburdened U.S. landfills and ships them to developing countries where they are sorely needed and highly valued. P4P bikes are put to work not only as basic transportation, but are used as a supplement to school and community programs. The bikes are adapted for use as trash haulers, produce trucks, taxis, and farm machinery.

The Borough of Roselle Park Annual Memorial Day Service

For the first time, the Borough of Roselle Park’s annual Memorial Day Service will be conducted virtually,  due to the COVID-19 pandemic, on Monday, May 25th, 2020, at 10 a.m.

Residents can view the ceremony live on the Roselle Park Veterans Memorial Library’s Facebook Page, the Borough’s YouTube Channel, Verizon TV Channel 32, and on Comcast TV Channel 34.

Mayor Sig and the Borough Council have requested that all residents take a moment to honor the men and women who have died serving our country. 

The  Memorial Day Service features an invocation by the Reverend Manuel Cruz Jr. of the Community United Methodist Church, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance by American Legion Post #60 Vice Commander Michael Connelly. Union County Vocational Technical High School student Angelyse Estevez will then sing the National Anthem.

Mayor Sig will then read the Honor Rolls of those who gave their lives for our country during World War I, World War II, the Vietnam War, and the Afghanistan War. The Roselle Park Fire Department will ring the bell in honor of our fallen veterans. 

The service will conclude with Benediction by Reverend Manuel Cruz Jr. of the Community United Methodist Church followed by “God Bless America” sung by Union County Vocational Technical High School Student Angelyse Estevez.

Mayor Sig and the American Legion Post #60 Vice Commander Michael Connelly will place memorial wreaths at the Doughboy monument and the Purple Heart monument at the Roselle Park Veterans Memorial Library after the service. American Legion Post #60 will perform the traditional gun salute.

Residents visiting the Veterans Memorial Library after the ceremony are asked to respect social distancing guidelines.

The Cranford Memorial Day Committee has announced that a modified Memorial Day Parade will take place on Monday, May 31.

According to the release, the lineup begins at the Community Center (220 Walnut Ave.) at 8:30 a.m., and marching commences at 9:00 a.m.

The parade route is as follows: Marchers will proceed north on Walnut Avenue to North Avenue, swing west to Eastman Street, go north on Eastman Street to Central Avenue, go east on Central Avenue to Springfield Avenue, turn north on Springfield Avenue, go east and south on Riverside Drive, proceed to Central Avenue and disperse.

The Cranford Recreation and Parks Department is pleased to announce its annual Memorial Day Parade will take place on Monday, May 30th. Cranford VFW Post #335 has announced that Marine Corp veteran Braulio Lirenzo has been chosen to be this year’s Cranford Memorial Day Parade Grand Marshall.
Line up begins at the Community Center, 220 Walnut Avenue in Cranford at 8:30am and marching commences at 9:00am ending with a traditional memorial ceremony at Memorial Park on Springfield Avenue between Riverside Drive and Central Avenue at 10 am. In case of inclement weather, services only will be held at the Cranford Community Center at 10:00am.

The 22nd Annual Brian Jenkins Memorial Halloween Parade, Costume Contest, and Pumpkin’ Chunkin’ will be held on Sunday, October 30th starting at 1:00 PM.

We’ll have the traditional awards by age: 0-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, and 12-17. And for families or groups, we have Best Duo or Trio and Best Group (4+ People). Pre-register at bit.ly/Costume2022

Judging will take place at the Community Center parking lot from 1:00 to 1:45, followed by the parade to downtown Cranford and the famous Pumpkin Chunkin’ (weather permitting) on North Union Ave.
